Laura's thesis analysed land issues related to Colombian Peace Accords.

Laura Silva Aya won the 2017 Faculty of Arts-Canadian Council for the Americas Essay Prize for her honours’ thesis titled “Peace vs. Land? Understanding the 2016 Colombian Plebiscite,” completed under the supervision of LARC director Pablo Policzer.

The Arts-CCA prize is awarded to the best paper in a Faculty of Arts course in the previous calendar year in the areas of “economics, political economy, trade, politics and international relations” with a focus in Latin American issues. This award is possible thanks to the support of the Canadian Council for the Americas – Alberta’s longstanding support that makes it possible to recognize some of the best Faculty of Arts students. Kathryn Reese-Taylor (Anthropology and Archaeology), Hendrik Kraay (History) and Nayibe Bermúdez Barrios (School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Culture) served on the prize jury.
