LAST 211 Students win Day of the Dead Altar Competition

The Latin American Studies Program and the Latin American Students’ Association held the Second Annual Day of the Dead Altar Competition at the University of Calgary on November 2, 2015. Student groups and Latin American Studies classes prepared ofrendas (offerings) to celebrate Mexican holiday that honours families’ absent loved ones and heroes of popular and political culture who have passed away in the last year. The competition was judged again this year by expert representatives from the Mexican Consulate in Calgary.  Congratulations to Dr. Kathryn Reese-Taylor’s class, LAST 211: Latin American Popular Culture, and all of the other participants for their creative entries and enthusiastic participation.
