LARC Visiting Fellow and PhD Candidate (Carleton University) Victoria Simmons will give a talk related to current research on migration politics in Mexico an Central America. This event is free and open to the public. 12:30pm-1:45pm in SA 104.
Over the past two decades, a multitude of representations have emerged to describe migrants’ experiences of riding atop Mexico’s freight trains as part of their journey to the United States. This talk will examine how steel serpents and other representations of the freight trains move people -both physically and emotionally- thereby shaping political thought and action in the field of migration politics today.
