Join LARC for the second screening of our fall series of classic cinema with the highly-acclaimed Bolivian film Yawar Mallku (Blood of the Condor, 1969). The film tells the true story of illegal sterilization of Quechuan women under a birth control program administered by the United States Peace Corps. The film traces the reaction of an Indigenous community against a group of foreigners who under the guise of development assistance are forcibly sterilizing Indigenous women. This award-winning feature film is an impassioned defense of Bolivia's Indigenous cultures and an critique of US imperialism. Q&A with a local expert will follow the screening.
