Rogelio Velez Mendoza, who currently works as LARC digital support, has completed his master’s degree in History, with a concentration in history and philosophy of science at the University of Calgary. Rogelio wrote his master’s thesis on medical publications in Colombia during the first half of the nineteenth century.  Congratulations! 

During Mexico Days 2017 at the University of Calgary, Professor Carlos De Leo discussed the challenges and obstacles Mexico City must overcome in order to achieve sustainability and what is being done to work toward this vision.

Recently the  Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research gathered at UCalgary and then at the Banff International Research Station (BIRS) for a six-day seminar. Twenty-seven scientists and professionals from 15 countries from the Americas worked together to design research projects and to collaborate on issues of common interest. 

Congratulations! The 2017 Chacmool conference of the University of Calgary Archaeology Association will celebrate 50 years of Calgary’s leadership role in Canadian archaeology. 

LARC’s partnership with the Calgary Public Library offered the public in the city a new event in the LARC Dialogues Series: “Throwing away the Lab Coat: Communicating science across borders.”

LARC and the Latin American Studies Program welcomed Dr. Bill Beezley, Professor of History at the University of Arizona, to share his research on the history of Malbec wine in Argentina. 

LARC Fellow Jose M. Gordillo was recently in Madrid to launch his newly published novel El delirio del absurdo.
