Join us to celebrate LARC Fellow Hendrik Kraay's most recent book tracing the history of the Dois de Julho festival in Salvador, Brazil. Since 1824, Bahians have marked independence with this popular festival, drawing on elements of santos' processions, carnivals and civic rituals to express their identity as Bahians and Brazilians and create the nation they desired. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
