DOES THE EARTH HAVE RIGHTS? LARC and University of Calgary International will be hosting Bolivian Foreign Relations Minister David Choquehuanca Céspedes for a public talk on Los Derechos de la Madre Tierra (The Rights of Mother Earth) to discuss our connections and obligations to the environment.  Minister Choquehuanca has served in the Bolivian cabinet since President Evo Morales took office in 2006. He has extensive experience in political and social activism in support of indigenous groups and campesinos in Bolivia. Presentation in Spanish with English interpretation. The Canadian Assocation of Hispanists and the Consulate of Colombia in  Calgary will be hosting a screening of the award-winning documentary Gabo: The Magic of Reality (2016) by Justin Webster. The film tells the incredible story of the late Gabriel García Márquez, who grew up in the violence and poverty of northern Colombia to become the world’s most influential and endeared authors. This film is a story about the incredible power of human imagination, following the interwoven threads of Gabriel García Márquez’s life and work – “Gabo” to all of Latin America – with the narrative tension of an investigation.
